countries and many African nations. There are approximately 30
variations of Arabic dialect with the Egyptian dialect being the
most widely spoken. Written Arabic comprises of Modern Standard

of the Qu’ran and classical literature. Although the Qu’ran
is written and recited in Classical Arabic, many Muslims rely

its meaning. Modern Standard Arabic is understood by all Arabic
speakers and as such is used for education and mass communication
e.g. newspapers and television. The majority of our Arabic translations

Arabic to English and English to Arabic typesetting considerations
When translating from one language to another,
the volume of text will either increase or decrease. This expansion
and contraction will vary depending upon subject matter. English
to Arabic translation often results in a 20% increase in text.
Accordingly, Arabic to English translation will decrease the amount
of text by 25%. This is a general rule, but should be factored
in when preparing copy that is to be typeset following translation.
A more significant consideration when typesetting an English to
Arabic translation is that Arabic copy flows from right to left.
This can result in a myriad of problems for a non Arabic-speaking
typesetter. The typesetting of Arabic requires experience, dedicated
Arabic versions of design software and an Arabic-speaking typesetter.
Additionally, page layout of artwork such as paneled brochures
will need to reversed, for example, the English version of a brochure’s
pages will be numbered 1,2,3, whereas the pages of the Arabic
version will be ordered 3,2,1. There are no other significant
typesetting considerations to be made when preparing copy for
translation from Arabic to English or English to Arabic.
