Foreign language interpreter services
Australian Multi Lingual Services provides
a range of interpreting services, including simultaneous interpreting
(conference interpreters) and consecutive
interpreters.
Simultaneous/conference interpreting
Interpreters enable oral communication between
two or more users of different languages. Simultaneous interpreters
differ from consecutive interpreters in that they communicate
the target language at the same time as the source-language is
being spoken. Simultaneous interpreters are often assigned to
conference interpreting assignments and for focus-group interpreting
assignments.
Due to the level of concentration required when interpreting
simultaneously, simultaneous interpreters often work in pairs.
This allows one interpreter to rest while the other interpreter
takes over, without a break in the flow of communication.
We take great care in selecting the most suitable interpreter
for your assignment. This is particularly important for simultaneous
interpreting assignments. It is essential that the interpreter
has sound background knowledge in the field that he or she will
be working in. For this reason, we ask our clients to forward
as much information as possible regarding the subject of the assignment
in advance. This may include speaker notes, handouts, etc.
By the very nature of simultaneous interpreting,
the level of proficiency required for a simultaneous interpreter
is extremely high. Qualified simultaneous interpreters are in
high demand, often flying around the world to attend various conferences.
Therefore, interpreter bookings should be made well in advance
of the assignment date.
We have at your disposal a team of highly qualified,
experienced simultaneous interpreters ranging from legal
interpreters, through to medical interpreters. All of our simultaneous
interpreters are members of The International Association of Conference
Interpreters (AIIC), which is the only world-wide association
of conference interpreters.
